Feronyl
Feronyl faced a challenging task in their production process, and found in HUPICO the ideal partner to meet this challenge. Our engineers quickly designed and implemented an intelligent production cell, combining the EPSON T3 robot and the Flexibowl feeding system.

Tailor-made automation: from concept to reality
Feronyl needed a way to record metal inserts and check whether they were upside down - a task where detail is crucial.
Technical expertise is required because the detail that determines the recording is so small that it is difficult to discern with conventional lighting techniques.
Our team went to work in the demo lab and developed an innovative solution using infrared backlight to accurately determine the position of the parts. This technique allowed us to grab the rings with a three-point gripper on the inside.
To determine whether the ring is upside down, we use a second camera looking sideways at the product. We rotate the ring 120° three times until we find the recess. This allows us to determine exactly whether the recess is on top or bottom. If the recess is on top, the ring is placed in an accurate mould, ready for a gantry robot of the injection moulding machine, which picks up a multiple each time to place it in the mould.
If the metal parts are upside down, we drop them on the edge of the FlexiBowl, so they are very likely to fall back on the right side and can be reabsorbed on the next round.
Seamless integration, maximum efficiency
The EPSON T3 is a SCARA robot perfect for simple and cost-effective automation. It has a built-in controller and low power consumption, making it ideal for tasks such as pick-and-place, assembly and inspection.
We also used a Flexibowl, a flexible feeding system that is reliable, cost-efficient and easy to integrate with the EPSON robot.
The project was delivered as a co-developed installation, with Feronyl supplying the frame and various positioning jigs. Thanks to good cooperation and preparation, the installation was operational within half an hour on delivery.
